The aim of the course is to provide members with a further skill and knowledge in relation to surf awareness, aquatic rescue operations, communication systems, equipment first aid and resuscitation. Eligibility for the Bronze Medallion is from 15 years of age, and for anyone that would like to start their Life Saving journey.

As this is the core award within Surf Lifesaving, once this award is obtained it is the foundation to build and grow to further award.

The Bronze Medallion award is recommended for Club and SLS members who wish to progress from roles like SLS water safety personnel and basic lifesaving patrols to further training and responsibilities and possibly move on the additional award qualifications such as IRB crew, patrol captains or Silver and Gold Medallions.

Pre-Requisites

• Be a financial member of an SLS club
• Be at least 15 years of age on the final assessment date
• Complete an unaided swim of 400 m in 9 minutes or less
