August 2024

Youth SRC – BM Bronze Medallion Transition Course

This Bronze Medallion transition course aims to provide participants with skills and knowledge related to surf awareness, aquatic rescue operations, radio operations, resuscitation, emergency care, spinal management, communication, teamwork, and Surf Lifesaving patrol operations. This award includes and builds upon the SLSA Surf Rescue Certificate and is the prerequisite award for many other SLS pathway awards.

Dates: 11/8/2024 – 22/9/2024

Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)

The Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) is the minimum requirement for members to volunteer at a gateway level as surf lifesavers. It allows youth aged 13 and 14 (not yet old enough to complete Bronze) to become certified to participate in surf lifesaving patrols. The SRC course requires candidates to demonstrate basic first aid skills, identify potential risks and perform surf rescues of different varieties in an open water environment.

First Aid Course & Advance Resus

Our CPR Course offers a unique blend of knowledge-based and practical training with flexible and streamlined delivery options covering industry best practices taught by certified professional first aid trainers using state-of-the-art equipment, tools and techniques to help you manage any CPR emergency with confidence.

Dates: 11th August and 24th August 2024

Training Officers Course

This course gives you the WA Training Officers Award.

It is a generic trainers course covering teaching theory, lesson structure, communication skills, skill development and documentation.

Once you have this award, complete a logbook for the course you are interested in teaching, e.g. Bronze Medallion, IRB and be signed off by a club mentor.

Dates: – Wednesday 21st August 2024 from 6.30 to 9.30pm and Saturday 24th August 2024 from 9 am to 12 noon.


September/October 2024

September Bronze Course

This award is open to all members over the age of 15 and involves training in surf awareness, survival, patrol and rescue procedures, emergency care, anatomy and physiology.

The Bronze Medallion course provides participants with the skills and knowledge in order to be able to participate in Surf Life Saving patrol operations. This is the core award to be a surf lifesaver in Australia.

As simulated ocean rescues using different rescue equipment will be part of your training you will need a reasonable level of fitness and be able to complete a 400 metre swim in 9 minutes or less. Once you have achieved this our trainers will train you to the level of a proficient life saver.

The Cert II course usually runs for 6 – 8 weeks with both theory and practical elements. On completion you will need to sit for an exam to gain the award.

Dates: Starting 14th September 2024

IRB Crew Course

Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an Inflatable Rescue Boat in surf rescue operations.

Theory session on Thursday 26th September around 6pm

First wet session Saturday 28th September around 6am

2024/25 Bronze and SRC Requals

To remain eligible to patrol and compete, members must requalify their awards yearly at a Skills Maintenance session, at the start of the season. 

Dates: October: 24th and 31st, 6:00 pm (Dry Bronze Re-qual)

November Sundays: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

November Thursday Nights: 21st and 28th, 6:00 pm (Dry Bronze and SRC Re-qual)

Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Requals

To remain eligible to patrol and compete, members must requalify their awards yearly at a Skills Maintenance session, at the start of the season.
